What is WFEO?

The West Finland European Office (WFEO) is a joint agency, situated in Brussels, of four Regional Councils (South Ostrobothnia, Central Finland, Ostrobothnia, Satakunta). First and foremost, the WFEO is promoting the interests of these regions, but it also serves the interests of other organisations that carry out the regions’ targets.

In 1995, when it was founded, the WFEO was Finland’s first regional office in Brussels. Its operations were made permanent in 2006. In addition to lobbying, the WFEO maintains an EU information service, which the region’s operators can join by registering on the web page EU Bulletins. The WFEO’s staff help and guide clients in finding project funding, cooperation partners and information about EU related issues. We provide assistance for groups planning to visit us in Brussels in planning their programme.

The WFEO’s staff visit its four regions regularly and organise client meetings, seminars and lectures on current issues in the EU’s political fields. We also organise annually our own seminars in Brussels and participate in the activities of various networks. The WFEO has two officials and, depending on the situation, 1-2 trainees per year.
